After talking to a friend recently, she said to me; look I’m just not good at money. Consigned to the fact she was never going to be good with money I asked her why?
The why is the hardest question. Why are we not good at things; why don’t we do certain things; why do we do things we know we shouldn’t. It is usually excuses that we use to take the easy way out. Its human automation where we say I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing because its what I know and it’s easy.
She said to me I don’t know anything about financial stuff and I just do what I have always done. We then talked about what this would mean and she said it made her feel stressed. She followed up the stressed feeling with the best thing I heard in the whole conversation ‘I want to learn maybe’; one of the most powerful things you can say. Not fully committed but at least open to the idea of learning.
Change is scary but also very rewarding. She said changing from a financially stressed person to a financially confident person is the best thing I have ever done. As crazy as it sounds, when you release financial stress then you also can do all of these other amazing things. Her productivity at work increased, her relationship is stronger and her friends have noticed a huge positive shift. All of these other life benefits all came from making one choice. The thing at the end of the whole journey to becoming financially confident was this; now that someone has shown me I didn’t realise that even I could do it.
Only you can decide when the time is right to change. Be it financial, health or in life. If you don’t want to you won’t. Lets not waste time and energy on something you know you don’t want to do. But, once you decide it is important……you will wake up and decide to change. It will happen, it’s not if but when.
